The challenge

With the online fitness program NXT LVL and the Men’s Health Personal Trainer and Women’s Health Personal Trainer apps, which combine both app and email, Rodale-Motor-Presse is breaking new ground. The goal is to make potential customers aware of their own offerings and to build long-term loyalty through email.

However, the combination of a pre-launch, (re)launch, and an ongoing program, as well as the multi-channel approach, places specific demands on the email provider. Another significant challenge is guaranteeing access to the program and apps from various devices.

Here, it is crucial that the sent emails are fully responsive. The email provider must also be capable of sending both marketing emails and transactional emails, fully automated if required. This necessitates sophisticated APIs, easy integration into their own system, professional contact management, as well as personalization and segmentation to fulfill the high demand for email individualization.

The results

In Mailjet, Rodale-Motor-Presse found an Email Service Provider that could handle all of these challenges. Mailjet’s powerful APIs form the foundation. Using the various APIs, the client can set up the entire sending process without issue. Combined with compliance with EU data protection regulations, Mailjet achieves a very high deliverability rate for all sent emails.

All email traffic for the various (fitness) apps and the online program is automatically coordinated and processed thanks to professional contact management and extensive personalization and segmentation options. The ability to set up automated email sequences for each defined segment also facilitates upselling.

During the pre-launch of the NXT LVL program, all potential participants were added to a prospect contact list and regularly informed about the current launch status. At launch, the prospects received a one-time email with the information that the online program was now available for booking, as well as a reminder email a short time later that the launch offer would soon expire.

Since the launch phase, the process is as follows: When a prospect becomes a customer, they are automatically transferred to the customer email list. If a prospect books the NXT LVL program, they automatically receive a welcome email, the first training plan, and all subsequent monthly training plans in an HTML template. Any special messages, such as upsell mailings, are also created in the HTML template. If a user cancels, they automatically move to the list of canceled users.

For the Men’s Health and Women’s Health Personal Trainer apps, various transactional emails were sent in 5 languages (English, Spanish, Italian, German, and Chinese) during the launch and relaunch: registration confirmation, activation link, password reset, and a voucher. A personalized and automatically sent email, which provides a regular overview of the user’s respective training progress, is being planned for both apps to complement the offering.

Through this collaboration with Mailjet, the publishing house saves valuable time and can therefore concentrate on other crucial tasks, such as the further development and promotion of the online program and the apps.
