How can I maintain a list of responsive contacts?

In order to maintain or improve your list quality, you need to closely monitor your campaign metrics and take action on your contact lists.

1. List Cleaning

Although Mailjet automatically handles the critical email statuses (bounced, spammed, unsubscribed), it is a good idea to regularly clean your contact lists so you can focus on the people who are most interested in your mailings.

How do I remove all bounced, spammed or unsubscribed addresses from a campaign?
Good news - its quite simple to do a bulk removal on a specific status for campaigns sent online! Please do the following:

1. Click on the Title of the campaign from your list of campaigns.

2. Scroll down to the “Emails List” section.

3. On the right side, click the ‘Status’ drop down list to select your desired status.
The “Emails List” section will automatically update to show only that one status.

4. Click the ‘Export to a list’ button.

5. Select the contact list that you want to modify from the left drop down list.

6. Select ‘Remove Contacts’ from the right drop down list.

7. Click the green ‘Export’ button.

Congratulations, you have successfully updated your contact list!

How can I remove just one contact from a list?
Go to your Contacts page and scroll to the bottom to find the search box. Enter the email address and then click ‘Search’. On the following page, you can easily remove that contact from one or more lists.

My contact’s email address has a typo. How can I correct that?
If you found a typo in an email address, you need to remove the incorrect address and add the corrected email address manually.

2. Filter and Segment

You should also think about those (idle) contacts who never open or click on your emails over a certain period of time. You may want to segment these contacts: move them to a separate contact list and then select a plan of action. You can set-up a reactivation plan where you send a special promotional offer or something that prompts a response. Or you may choose to delete the idle contacts altogether.

To download your contact list statuses for filtering, you can do this per campaign or via the Stats page:

Download and Filter Stats from a Campaign
1. From your Campaigns page, click on the ‘Title’ of the desired campaign.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the new page and click the ‘Download all as CSV’ button.

Download and Filter Stats from the Stats page
1. Go to your Stats page. Select the desired sender address, email type and time period.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Download all as CSV’ button.

If you are using APIs, please refer to our API documentation on how to remove unsubscribes etc.

In the end, it is completely up to you how to define non-engaging contacts based on your business and the plan of action that is required.
